Meet Our Team


Dr.John Rowe, DVM
Dr. Rowe earned a Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University in 1972 and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from OSU in 1976.  He and his wife, Judy, founded Marion Animal Hospital on Marion-Waldo Rd in 1976, and the current location was constructed from 1996-1998.  Dr Rowe and Judy have practiced in Marion for their entire careers and has grown the practice from just a few patients to over 10,000 annual patient visits.

Receptionist/Veterinary AssistantJudy has been there every step of Dr. Rowe's career to support him in any and every way possible. She can do almost any job in the hospital from reception to surgery to kennel work.







Dr. Stephanie Porter, DVM
Originally from St. Clairsville, Ohio, Dr. Porter is a 1999 Ohio University graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry.
She is a 2003 graduate of The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine.  
Initially, she worked at a small animal clinic in Coshocton, Ohio for 3 years then joined the Marion Animal Hospital team in 2007. She has gone from associate veterinarian to co-owner with Dr. Rowe. Dr. Porter enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine and surgery but especially loves dentistry and ophthalmology.
 Stephanie's husband, Nick, co-owns a custom sheet metal fabrication shop, and their son, Cole, attends Pleasant Middle School.
Stephanie's Fur Family includes Waylon (Rhodesian Ridgeback), Tank (Pittbull Mix), Peach (French Bulldog), one turtle and two leopard geckos.
Stephanie enjoys plants and gardening, outdoor activities and camping, crafting and reading.
Stephanie Fun Facts: Stephanie grew up riding horses and even worked at a horse farm. Stephanie would rather read a book than watch TV and will never turn down a Snickers bar!
Michelle Shroats
Veterinary Assistant, Business AssistantMichelle grew up here in Marion, Ohio where she graduated from Marion Harding High School.  Her first job in veterinary medicine was in TN where she lived for 7 years before moving back to Marion County.
She worked one year with Dr. Lust and joined the Marion Animal Hospital family in the summer of 2000.  Michelle has been here for 26 years serving our staff and clients in many different capacities.
In the past, Michelle has been a kennel worker, groomer, receptionist and veterinary assistant. Her main job tasks now are assisting in surgery and appointments as a veterinary assistant and as the bookkeeper for the clinic. She, more than any other employee, thrives on veterinary education and loves to follow the latest veterinary news. Michelle is a devoted and longtime employee that keeps us in line.
 Michelle has six kids: Jessica, Austin, Blake, Cameron, Connor and Riley. She currently has one dog, Walter, a 3 year-old rottweiler. (She recently lost her beloved pitty, Malcolm. Rest in peace, Malcolm.)

Michelle Fun Facts: She is addicted to crocs and Reese’s cups, loves watching movies and getting something on sale and enjoys audiobooks and nature. 
Sandi Campbell
Receptionist/Veterinary AssistantSandi started working here in 2003. She has had a few other jobs over the years but has spent most of her time here with us.As a lifelong resident of Marion County, Sandi and her husband, Paul, have two grown stepchildren, Lexi and Zack.Her absolute favorite blessings are her two grandchildren, Nichole and Jameson. She has two dogs, Jackie and Ivy, and two cats, Kylo and Rae.Sandi loves plants and when she is in the garden...she is in her happy place. She also loves to walk, in all types of weather, where she enjoys the exercise and quiet time. Sandi also loves to bake and do craft projects with her granddaughter, Nichole. Sandi is our heart. She is always so kind and patient. We love her smile and support to help get us through the sad days.Sandi Fun Facts: She is addicted to plants, she loves peppermint candy, and she loves music so much that she comes to us almost every day and sings lyrics for us to guess the song.





Sarah Barnett
Registered Veterinary TechnicianSarah was born in Plymouth, Ohio but was living here in Marion when she earned her Associate of Science degree from Marion Technical College in 2015.  She joined the hospital team in 2017 as a kennel worker and assistant and through the expert tutelage of Dr. Porter, Sarah studied veterinary medicine through the Penn Foster Veterinary Technician program and earned her degree in 2022. (This is not an easy task to do and many have attempted and have not been able to complete the coursework.)
As a registered VT, Sarah dishes out equal parts compassion, laughter, empathy and skillfulness. Her devotion to her job is unmatched and amazes all around her. She not only loves the pets but loves the clients as well. We are truly blessed to have Sarah as our VT. She makes all of the rest of us do better.
Outside of work, Sarah enjoys spending time with her 'old man' cat, Sissy Boo. Together, they love relaxing outside and enjoying nature. Sarah can often be found reading-or listening to-a good book. 
Sarah fun facts: She has a twin brother, is a lefty and is a Hufflepuff. (If you know, you know. Hint: Harry Potter.)



Kelly Rathje
Receptionist/Veterinary AssistantBorn in Columbus, Ohio and raised there until she was 16, Kelly's family moved to Delaware, Ohio where she graduated from Hayes High School in 2004.
In her teens, Kelly spent three consecutive summers volunteering for the Columbus Zoo and their conservation club. In fact, Kelly's first real job was working a seasonal exhibit for the Columbus Zoo. Kelly knew she loved being around animals and helping them from an early age but more importantly helping the animals made her feel complete. She said that she realized helping them was her calling and it both 'filled her cup and fed her soul'. 
When she worked for 8 years at a veterinary clinic in the Powell area, she quickly learned that veterinary medicine was where she belonged. She joined our MAH Family in 2019 and has been a fabulous team member and employee.  Kelly's organizational skills and work ethic are unmatched. We truly are lucky to have her with us!
Kelly has two children, Conner, 17, and Ruby, 7. She enjoys her job but also loves her time off where she spends time with her family. They enjoy going to concerts, hiking, camping and just hanging out around a nice fire. 
Kelly facts: She is a lefty, loves kettle corn and Krunch bars, and her favorite color...Kelly Green, of course!



Dr. Monica Decker, DVM
Dr. Decker was raised on a beef cattle farm in Selma, Alabama by parents that were both educators. Monica received her B.S. in Animal and Dairy Sciences and her DVM from Auburn University. She initially was a mixed-animal practitioner with a focus on dairy cattle and small animal. She moved to Marion County after marrying another veterinarian, Dr. Bill Decker (OSU '92), who grew up in Green Camp, Ohio. Monica practiced at Marion Animal Hospital from 2002-2006 and then left for 18 years to practice with her husband at Oates Veterinary Clinic in Kenton, Ohio.  She rejoined Marion Animal Hospital again in January of 2025, preferring the environment and connection of an independently-owned veterinary practice.

Dr. Monica and her husband are the proud parents of two children, Benjamin (Columbus College of Art & Design) and Rachel (Ohio Wesleyan University). On their family farm, west of Green Camp, they have two dogs, Scout and Nash, three cats, Eleanor, Buddy and Binks, and many fish. Monica was in the Auburn Basketball Pep Band and was a trumpet section leader in the Auburn Marching Band. Catch her on the right day and you might hear her yell, 'War Eagle!' Monica Fun Facts: She was in a band that opened for the Beach Boys, Shaq landed in her lap one time, she has a drum set in her basement, and has a Michael Jackson addiction. Shamone!


Robyn Huffine
Receptionist/Veterinary AssistantRobyn was born in Indiana but her family moved to Marion County when she was in the first grade.  Robyn first worked her in 2001 for over 10 years. She pursued a career in human healthcare for many years, and we were absolutely thrilled to get her back in 2025.
She and her husband, Harley, have a grown son, Joshawa, a manager at the Marion Menard's store. Robyn has two dogs: Rags and Precious.
Robyn enjoys walking, listening to music and staying home and watching a great movie.
Robyn Fun Facts: She did missions work in Haiti in 2013, she met her husband when she was 15, and she loves new-age gospel.
